What is the RTLB role?
An RTLB (Resource Teacher of Learning and Behaviour) works within schools to provide targeted support to teachers of students who may need extra assistance within the regular classroom programme.
Cluster 4 RTLB work within schools on the North Shore of Auckland with:
-
School personnel
-
Whānau
-
A range of Ministry of Education specialists
-
Other agencies
The classroom teacher or SENCO will discuss your child’s learning and/or behaviour needs with you, as well as the option of making a Request for Support to the RTLB service.
-
Your informed consent is needed for the request to move forward.
-
Informed consent means you fully understand the reasons behind the Request for Support.
What to expect if a Request for Support is made to the RTLB Service:
-
The RTLB will coordinate with the teacher to observe your child in the classroom environment.
-
The RTLB will gather information about your child’s learning and/or behaviour, which may include speaking with your child to understand their perspective.
-
The RTLB will contact you to discuss the Request for Support and your child’s strengths, interests, and needs.
-
The information collected will be used to develop a plan of action, outlining specific goals and strategies to achieve them.
-
The plan will be created by the RTLB, teacher(s) and whānau in collaboration with other relevant parties. Whānau input is highly valued.
-
The RTLB will continue to monitor and adjust the plan to ensure your child’s success.
-
The Request for Support may be closed when the team agrees the intervention has achieved the desired outcomes or when it’s determined that other pathways need to be explored.
